Dra Abu el-Naga ( Western Thebes )

Dra Abu el-Naga (23o44' N 32o27' E) is the necropolis on the West Bank in Thebes, and is adjoined to the north by the necropolis of el-Tarif and to the south by the necropoleis of Deir el-Bahari and el-Assasif. From 1921-1923, Clarence Fisher excavated this site His excavations included work in the tombs of New Kingdom officials and the mortuary complex of Amenhotep I and his wife Ahmes-Nefertari. Beginning in 1967, Lanny Bell continued work at this site concentrating on the epigraphic recording and conservation of the decorated rock-cut tombs of XIX Dynasty. Dra Abu el-Naga contains 114 rock tombs of officials and rulers.  Here are located also temple of Mentuhotep II, temples of Intefs (XI and XVII Dynasties) and pyramid-tomb of king Ahmose I and queen Tetisheri.
